Get some easy social network action on your blog

September 15th, 2009 by Coen Jacobs

Social networks like Twitter, Digg, Delicious and many others have a important role for bloggers who like to have some serious traffic on their blogs. That’s exactly why there are lots of plugins that focus on getting your content into the social networks that you like. There are two plugins that I really love, that make it easy for your visitors to spread your blogs content on social networks, Sociable and WP Greet Box.

Sociable

There’s a big chance that you’ve seen this plugin in action already. Lots of blogs run these little chicklets below their content to allow easy posting on social networks. Posting a message linking to the content is only two clicks away and is really working!

I’ve added this plugin to numerous of blogs and in all cases they see a growth in activity on social networks regarding their content. You should be aware though that your visitors should use the social networks that you provide the chicklets of. But there are loads of networks to select, so there is a network for each blog.

Yesterday Joost decided to give this plugin a new home. From now on the Sociable plugin will be maintained by BlogPlay.com. The functionality will remain the same.

WP Greet Box

Now we have provided the ability to easily post our content to social networks, we should do something special with our new visitors. That’s where WP Greet Box comes in with providing a specific welcome message to these new visitors.

There will be links inside the welcome message to allow the new visitor to spread the content with his own network as well. For example; when a new visitors enters your blog via Twitter, the message will contain a link to tweet a link to the content and a link to follow you on Twitter.

All the messages are customizable, so you can edit the text and links to fit your needs.

Social networking made easy for your blog!

With these two plugins your blog is sure to get more activity around your blog on different social networks. You should be careful though not be to spammy and provide links to post your content on every inch of your blog, because the outcome can be the exact opposite of what you aim for.

Do you have any other ways of increasing the social network activity of your blog? Please let me know, I’m always eager to learn new strategies!
