In the past few days I have received more email, tweets and retweets on Twitter and phone calls than in the month of September in total. The reason is the launch of my Teezir blocking WordPress plugin. Once I launched that plugin, people have been massively downloading it, loving it and sharing it with other people.
But today, we can celebrate a little victory and I am quite happy to be able to say that I will discontinue this plugin. Buma/Stemra canceled their actions (read the announcement in Dutch), so paying to embed videos for non-commercial purposes is no longer required. I will publish one more update on this plugin within a couple of days, which will display a message on your administration pages that will recommend you to uninstall this plugin, so it won’t bother you anymore.
Once there is some more action required in this case, I’ll let you guys know and I will continue developing a plugin to block the crawlers on our blogs. Thanks again for sharing it with the world, let’s celebrate our victory!

Dat lijkt me iets te voorbarig. Iedereen die maar 1 kleine advertentie op zijn site heeft staan moet alsnog betalen. Je doet veel mensen een plezier als je de blocker actief houdt.

Ik zou de plugin nu mss wel inactief zetten, maar wel de ip-adressen in de gaten houden en scherp blijven op wat die BUMA-snor nu pcies gaat doen, want ik denk dat ze zelfs banners straks tot commerciele activiteiten gaan rekenen oid…
Dit verwachtte ik al. Buma heeft de prijzen natuurlijk opzettelijk zo exorbitant hoog gemaakt om wisselgeld te hebben bij onderhandelingen en eventuele tegenwerking. Fact of the matter is natuurlijk dat er nog steeds betaald moet worden voor EMBEDDEN. Dat is niet ok, en juridisch discutabel. Buma zegt wel vaker wat, dus ik zou zeggen: blijf het in de gaten houden en keep up the good work. Ook commerciele sites kunne wat aan de plugin hebben, ze gaan echt niet handmatig alle websites checken op ‘copyright infrigement’. In Januari zullen we zien wat er gebeurt.
Ik heb de plugin inactief gezet. Maar ik ben heel erg benieuwd wat BUMA verstaat onder het bedrijfsmatig gebruik. Een banner, een link naar een commerciële website? Het is wel een erg ruim begrip.
Volgens een paar replies op andere blogs is de User-Agent TeezirCrawler. Die heb ik toch voor de zekerheid maar even in robots.txt gezet met een disallow.
