3 important metrics you should be keeping tabs on

If you have a blog or website, there are some crucial metrics you should be keeping a close watch on.

To make sure you are spending your time and money on the most efficient marketing methods, you have to test and track metrics.

Here are 3 of the most important metrics you should be keeping tabs on:

1. Return on investment

Content marketing is effective but it’s not free.

You have to invest in creating, distributing and amplifying your content, and also in nurturing your leads until they become customers. With an incredible amount of channels, tools and tactics, you have to be efficient.

That means calculating your ROI and constantly optimizing your strategy for improved results.You can then either base your ROI calculations on lead generation metrics or translate these numbers into revenue figures.

2. Bounce rate

This metric is closely related to time on website as a measure of engagement that shows you the degree to which people are enjoying and interacting with your content. Measuring your bounce rate will give you a good indication of how your visitors are resonating with your content. Your bounce rate is the percentage of site visitors who leave after visiting one page.

You can use Google Analytics to track it. The tool registers a bounce when a visitor clicks the back button, closes the browser, types in another URL, clicks an external link or does not click to another page for 30 min.

3. Number of social mentions

Social media can help you engage and interact with fans and customers who read and share your content. Find out how many people are talking about your content and engage in conversations with them.

You can assess the performance of a certain content asset by looking at how many social shares and mentions it got.

You can use a tool like FalconSocial that monitors to track brand mentions and interactions but also to identify the general sentiment around your content, industry influencers or competitors.


If you are looking for ways to make money online, there are a ton.

And they may all work. I don’t know. Haven’t tried them all. Don’t plan to.

But the one thing that they all have in common is….

Selling. (If this threw you for a loop, what were you expecting? Really!)

Duuuuhh.

Of course!

But what does that mean?

It means people have to buy what you’re selling.

And what does that mean?

It means traffic. It means you have to get your product in front of people so they have the option to buy.

So no matter what online money making “program” you’re involved with, be it real estate, cars, brain supplements, t-shirts, writing, marketing, photoshoping, financial service, customer service, mlm, tutoring…..(oh ya the list goes on)

…what is the one thing you need to do?

Get known!

People have to know you..know who you are…know where you are…know what you’ve got.

You have to be in their face.

And how do you do that?

Google.

You need to get yourself on the first page of Google.

It just don’t care what y’all sellin’ if ain’t nobody knows where ya are.

You could have the best product in the world, but if nobody knows about it…..

So how do you get yourself on the first page of Google?

Well now, that is the 10 million dollar question, isn’t it.

Luckily, I have the answer for you.

And luckily, I’m not gonna charge you an arm and a leg for it.

As a matter of fact, I ain’t gonna charge you diddly.

Website

I am going to assume though that you have a website. Ya can’t really sell anything online if you don’t have a website.

Well I suppose there’s Ebay and Amazon and sites like that. But then there’s a million people doing exactly what you’re doing, so how does that make you unique?

So…a website.

No, I’m not suggesting some elaborate setup that costs you thousands and that forces you to spend all kindsa time just working on the site.

There are many ways, inexpensive ways to get yourself a domain name, good hosting, and a site. I’m suggesting maybe 50 to 100 bucks a year. Oh, for sure. You could spend that per month, but don’t! You don’t need to!!

OK, so you’ve got a site. Now what?

Product.

You’ve got to have something to sell. Ideally, you want to have something digital, i.e. you don’t want to have to physically ship something to somebody. That just gets messy and causes headaches.

OK…so a site and a product. You’re set to go.

Now, about Google.

This is, as you might think, the most difficult part. But really…it’s not that bad.

So let’s figure out how to do it then.

Content.

You need good quality content on your site. You can’t have a one page site with one product and expect Google to like you.

It also has to be current and kept current.

If it gets old with cobwebs hangin off it… Well would you go into a store covered in cobwebs? (Not counting Halloween)

Backlinks.

Ooooo, this is a biggy. This is THE biggy

You need other sites linking to your site. The more sites linking into your site, the more Google will think YOUR site is important.

BUT!! I need to clarify something here. And this is VERY important.

I’ll use an analogy.

Let’s say your selling, oh I don’t know, model airplanes. (I know…it’s not digital. But it’s good enough for our purposes here)

And let’s say that your store is on the outskirts of town…where there’s not a lot of traffic. (You want to be downtown main street, yes?)

Now, do you think the guy down the road from you, also on the outskirts of town with very little traffic, who sells oil barrels…is anyone going to listen to him when he says that you sell great model airplanes?

Probably not. He sells oil barrels. What does he know about model airplanes? And he gets practically no customers anyway so he’s not going to be able to tell anybody about you, even if you have a deal with him that you will recommend him.

So what you need is somebody on main street in the heart of town, with lots of traffic and at least a similar product line to recommend you…say in this case, an arts and crafts store.

But why would they want to do that?

See you have to first convince them of a few things. Your integrity. Your quality product. Your capabilities as a business owner.

Once you’ve done that and they accept you, they will start recommending you to their customers.

And that referral will have these people driving out to your store, or to put it another way, it starts bringing your store closer to main street.

And then this snowballs. The closer you get to main street….the closer you get to the first page on Google…the more people you have visiting your store.

Until finally, there you are…you’ve arrived. You’re on main street…the first page of Google with a steady stream of people coming in and out of your store and sales soar.

So what was the moral of this analogy?

Quality.

You can buy, for practically nothing, backlinks from all over the place.

But if they’re not quality links, they ain’t good for nuthin!

So to sum it all up.

Get a website
Have great quality content
Keep your site and content up to date
Get quality backlinks.

Boom…done.
