This weekend I introduced the new design on my blog here to you all. Almost seconds after that it went live, the first questions were piling up in my email inbox, Twitter replies and other social networks. The main question was: why so simple and boring?
First of all, personally I don’t think this design is boring. Yes, it is a bit gray and I’m planning on adding a little bit extra color in it here and there. But boring? No, boring is when the content isn’t getting any attention and visitors navigate away. But by the fact that you’re still reading, that part of the design works.
My main focus was, how cliche, the content. Content needs to stand out nowadays. Not only by quality, but also due to the layout of each page. And that part of the redesign (although building a theme instead of using the default WordPress theme can hardly be named a REdesign) worked out pretty good. On each page, the content is pretty much the first thing you will see, the focus will always be aimed for the content.
Thanks for all the response so far, I really appreciate it. Please do keep it going if you think there is room for improvement. You can always contact me, drop me a line on Twitter or get in touch via any other social network.
